Health Benefits of Tea
The potential effects of tea on health have been pushed for more than 4700 years, ever since its discovery. The possible beneficial health effects of tea consumption have been suggested and supported by some studies, but others have found no benefits. Below is a list of some of the benefits of consuming tea based on recent research.
Anti-cancer properties
The antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG’s) found in green teas have been found to slow down the growth of cancer cells. According to the US National Cancer Institute, catechins inactivated oxidants, reducing the number and size of tumors and inhibiting the growth of cancer cells.
White tea has been claimed to be even more effective in some studies.
Metabolic Rate
Sources have found that green tea raises the metabolic rates, which speeds up fat oxidation and improves insulin sensitivity. The polyphenols in green tea have also been found to increase energy expenditure – allowing calories to burn at a faster rate.
Possible Anti-diabetes Effect
Some sources have also found epidemiological evidence from drinking green tea may help prevent diabetes.
Effects on bad breath
Polyphenols have been found to inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause bad breath.
